# Baby shower invitation wording you can copy

_Updated 2026-10-30_

**The short answer.** A baby shower invitation needs five things: whose shower it is, who is hosting, when and where, a date to reply by, and a gentle word about gifts if you have a preference. Open with one warm line, keep the rest plain, and send it four to six weeks before the shower.

## What to include

1. **Whose shower it is.** The mum-to-be, or both parents for a co-ed shower.
2. **Who is hosting.** Guests reply to the host, so they need to know who that is.
3. **When and where.** Date, start and finish time, and the address.
4. **When to reply by.** About two weeks before, so the host can plan food and seats.
5. **Anything they should know.** A gift list, a theme, a dress colour, or that it's a surprise.

If you are sending it on WhatsApp, the details go on the invitation and the message only needs a greeting, one line and the link.

## Classic baby shower wording

**Simple and traditional**

> Please join us for a baby shower honouring Amara Okafor.

**Warm**

> A little one is on the way! Join us to celebrate Amara before baby arrives.

**Playful**

> Oh baby! Come and shower Amara with love before her little one arrives.

**Light-hearted**

> Hugs, cake and tiny socks. You're invited to Amara's baby shower.

**Formal**

> With joy and gratitude, we invite you to celebrate the coming of Amara and Tunde's baby.

## Wording for a girl, a boy or a surprise

**It's a girl**

> Pink, pearls and a little girl on the way. Join us to celebrate Amara.

**It's a boy**

> A little man is coming soon! Join us for a baby shower for Amara.

**Waiting to find out**

> Boy or girl, we can't wait to meet them. Join us to celebrate Amara and bump.

**Twins**

> Two little ones are on their way! Please join us for a twin baby shower for Amara.

## Co-ed, surprise and second-baby showers

**Co-ed shower**

> Join us for a baby shower for Amara and Tunde. Partners, friends and little ones all welcome.

**Surprise shower**

> Shh, it's a surprise! Join us for a baby shower for Amara. Please don't mention it to her.

**A sprinkle for a second baby**

> Baby number two is on the way! Join us for a sprinkle to celebrate Amara and the newest member of the family.

**Online shower**

> Join us online to shower Amara with love. Grab a cup of tea, the link is below.

**Faith-based**

> In thanksgiving for the gift of new life, please join us to pray over and celebrate Amara and her baby.

## Gift wording that doesn't sound like a shopping list

Mention gifts once, near the end, and make it sound like help rather than a rule.

**A gift list**

> Amara has a small gift list for anyone who would like it. Your company is the real present.

**Books for baby**

> Instead of a card, please bring a book with a message for baby inside.

**Nappy raffle**

> Bring a pack of nappies, any size, and you'll be entered into our nappy raffle.

**A group gift**

> Amara and Tunde would love contributions towards a pram, but please don't feel you have to bring anything.

**No gifts**

> No gifts please. Just come hungry and ready to celebrate.

## The message to send with it

On WhatsApp, the message that carries the invitation should be short and come from the host. The link opens the invitation with the details and a way to reply.

**With the invitation**

> Hi Grace! You're invited to Amara's baby shower. Everything is here, and you can let us know if you can come: [link]

**A reminder**

> Hi Grace, just checking you saw the invitation to the baby shower. We'd love you to be there if you can. [link]

## Sending it with Our Guest List

On Our Guest List you type the mum-to-be's name, choose a design, and each guest gets their own link with the details and a button to reply. Replies, numbers and anything guests can't eat collect in one list, and you send each invitation from your own WhatsApp or iMessage, or by email to guests with an address.

Most showers fit the free plan, which covers 50 guests. [Start free](/start), or see [baby shower invitations](/invitations/baby-showers).

## Questions people ask

### When should you send baby shower invitations?

Four to six weeks before the shower, with a reply date about two weeks before it. Most showers are held four to eight weeks before the due date, so the invitations often go out around the start of the third trimester.

### Who sends the baby shower invitations?

Usually the host: a friend, a sister, a mother or a co-worker. The invitation says who is hosting so guests know who to reply to. Sending your own is fine too, and increasingly common.

### Is it OK to mention a gift list on a baby shower invitation?

Yes, once and gently. Many guests prefer to know what is useful. Put it near the end, and pair it with a line saying their company matters more.

### Can men come to a baby shower?

If you want them there. A co-ed shower invites partners, friends and family of every kind. Say so on the invitation, so nobody has to ask.

## Send yours with Our Guest List
