Add guests from your contacts.
Most of your guests are already in your phone. Bring them in rather than typing them out, and only the people you choose ever reach us.
Save your contacts as a file
An iPhone saves its contacts as one file you can open here. This needs iOS 17 or later.
On an older iPhone, use a computer instead: sign in at icloud.com, open Contacts, select them all and choose Export vCard.
Pick who you're inviting
Search or scroll, tick each guest, then press Next. Nobody is ticked until you tick them, so the doctor's surgery and the plumber stay where they are.
Put couples and families together
Everyone you pick comes back as their own invitation. People who share a surname, like James and Sophie Taylor, are offered as one: press Join them, or Keep apart if they're separate. Join with… puts anyone together, and Split undoes it.
Choose who each invitation is sent to, and use + family for children or a plus one without a name. Then press Add and they all go on your list at once.
Type a name and it finds them
Once your contacts file is open, start typing in Who's on this invitation and your contacts are suggested with their numbers. Choose one and their number is filled in. Type “and” to add the next person on the same invitation, like “Kwame and Ama Mensah”.
On Android, typing finds the people you've already picked. For anyone else, tap the contacts button inside the name box to pick them from your phone.
If something goes wrong
- The file came back empty
- Make sure it ends in .vcf. On an iPhone, export All Contacts rather than a single contact.
- I can't see “Choose from your contacts”
- Only Chrome on Android offers it. On an iPhone, in another browser or on a computer, open your contacts file instead.
- Someone's number is a landline
- WhatsApp and iMessage can't reach a landline, so we say so beside it. Add a mobile number for them, or an email address.
- A guest lives abroad
- A number saved with its + and country code is read as it is. One saved the local way is read as the country you chose above your guest list, and if it looks like it belongs somewhere else, we ask which.
- Somebody is already on my list
- They're left out, with Add anyway beside them in case they're a different person with the same number.
